Tide Drops Series to Huskers

Tide Drops Pair of One Run Games











After opening the series with a dominating 8-0 win on Friday night, the Alabama baseball team lost a pair of one run games to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, 4-3, 6-5 on Saturday and Sunday. Alabama falls to 13-6 on the season while Nebraska improves to 8-5 on the year. Nebraska jumped out to an early 5-0 lead on Sunday and while Alabama fought back to make the game 6-5 with one out and a runner on 2nd in the 9th, both Kent Matthes and Matt Bentley struck out to end the game.

Bernard Robert pitched 5.1 innings for Alabama giving up five runs, six hits, giving up 3 walks, and striking out four. Josh Copeland, Will Stroup, and Kasey Kebedaux each saw action for the Crimson Tide on Sunday.

On Saturday, Nebraska's Jeff Tezak single handily defeated the Crimson Tide. Tezak finished the game 5 for 5 including a sole home run to tie the game in the 7th and the go ahead RBI single in the 9th inning. Tommy Hunter pitched 8 strong innings for Alabama giving up three runs while striking out a career high nine batters. Hunter did not factor into the decision as Austin Hyatt who gave up a the winning run in the 9th took the loss for Alabama.

Alabama returns to action on Wednesday night as they travel to Birmingham, AL to take on the Samford Bulldogs at 6:30 pm.
