Steele Hits Game Winner As # 18 Tide Beats Mississippi State

TUSCALOOSA, AL| He has been slowed by injuries the entire year, but Ronald Steele is still one of the best when it comes to game winning shots. Steele hit the game winner with 6.7 seconds on the clock to give the 18th ranked Crimson Tide a 80-79 win over Mississippi State Wednesday night at Coleman Coliseum.

The Tide trailed most of the game to the visiting Bulldogs (12-10, 3-6) and were down 5 with 1:19 left in the 2nd half when junior Mykal Riley hit the first 3 point basket of the second half for Alabama, who was 0 for 9 at that point. Riley hit another 3 point shot with 17 seconds left to tie the game. On the next possession Alabama fouled Ben Hansbrough, who hit 1 of 2 free throws to put Mississippi State up 1 with around 11 seconds left. That proved to be more than enough time for Steele, who now has multiple game winning shots this season.

Alabama(18-5, 5-4) was led by Richard Hendrix's 22 points, Jermareo Davidson's 17, juniors Mykal Riley added 12, along with Steele's 10. Mississippi State was led by a brilliant performance from sophomore JaMont Gordon who netted 27 for the Bullies and Dietric Slater chipped in 13 for State.

The Tide remains in sole possession of first place in the SEC West and will travel to Ole Miss on Saturday for a 5pm CT tip off from Tad Smith Coliseum in Oxford, MS.
